Ways of Making Money

Social games are the rage these days, but making money from them isn’t easy. Gamers play these titles for free, but Adknowledge is figuring out how game publishers can wind up making money from 100 percent of the players.

Adknowledge’s Burlingame, Calif.-based Super Rewards subsidiary is launching a three-part system for making money from virtual currency in games. That could help boost the engagement of players in social games and help raise the revenue generated from each user, said Adknowledge chief executive Scott Lynn. Adknowledge can offer this money-making system as a one-stop shop for publishers and game advertisers.

The three elements include an in-game overlay, offer banners, and a new offer wall for online game publishers. Adknowledge claims the new platform improves the experience for users and increases the number of paying users in a game. Adknowledge is one of a number of companies that give users the option of accepting special offers in lieu of payment for an online game. You can accept an offer such as signing up for a Netflix subscription in return for virtual currency in a game.

But results show that roughly 75 percent of players do not use offers. Super Rewards can target those missing the offers with an in-game overlay, which brings a single, high-value offer to users within a game. The overlay shows up at strategic moments in a game, such as after the initial load. The offers can include promotional language such as “Get More Coins.”

The offer banner uses the space around the main game landscape, presenting a mini version of an offer wall during game play. Users can pay for virtual items at the moment with direct payment methods.

Publishers using the three-part system include The Broth, whose Facebook game Barn Buddy saw its revenue increase 25 percent after using the new system for just five days, said Broth chief executive Markus Weichselbaum. Other publishers have seen a 45 percent increase in the number of new paying users. Adknowledge said developers have seen a 40-percent increase in the number of first-time payers. Super Rewards’ rivals include TrialPay and Offerpal.

Adknowledge has more than 300 employees and $300 million in revenue, making it the largest privately owned internet advertising network. It was founded in 2004 and has grown through acquisitions. The company has raised $48 million in funding from Technology Crossover Ventures.

There is an impression, widespread and generally accurate, that America is changing. And that impression creates uncertainty, and uncertainty generates fear. The issue is whether our fears are justified.

We are becoming more Latin, Asian, and African-American. White Christians are less dominant. Increasing ethnic diversity changes culture. Movies, music, literature, education, all adapt to reflect a changing society.

International corporations increasingly condition and determine our economy. The U.S. government cannot guarantee American jobs. Jobs go where the money goes. Pass a law that prevents companies from making things elsewhere and the companies will simply relocate. Traditional monetary and fiscal policies don't work anymore as they used to.

All of us Americans are dramatically affected by all this. Seeing your country change around you in ways that neither you nor your elected representatives can prevent is frightening, especially if you are older, white, and conservative by nature. You blame those in power -- the "elites" -- for not stopping this. Find a villain. How about a black president who must be a Muslim born somewhere else. You are frightened, and frightened people easily and naturally become angry people. A century ago we called these Americans "populists". Now they call themselves the "tea party."

Unless you believe these cultural, social, and economic trends can be reversed, that we can somehow magically return to the 1950s of happy days, ways must be found for our nation to absorb these changes and make them "American" as we have during past waves of immigration and cultural diversity. The magic of America exists in this unique capacity to absorb difference and make it come out American.

In the meantime, older, white, conservative Americans should be listened to with respect and encouraged to overcome their fears. It is a law of nature that generations must move on. In a decade or so we will all look back (including me, I hope) on this period as yet another era of transition where the magic of America adjusted to change and made us better. And less afraid.

Right... we all know what e-bay is, how it works, what it does, and how it has affected the internet, and the world. E-bay is the biggest online auction site on the internet, so surly there has to be ways of making money on it without selling your beloved goods. Well... there is! This fantastic method is known as GNU. The GNU General Public License is a free, copy left license for software and other kinds of works.

What all of this means, is that there is software out there, which you can simply find by visiting a search engine such as Google or ask and search for "GNU Software" - and what's even better, all of this software is copyright free, so how can you use this to make money.

People look on e-bay every day for games, programs such as Microsoft word or office, so what better way to use e-bay than provide people with exactly this. While the GNU license does not allow you to sell its products, it does allow you to sell the information you have research on these products, meaning you are selling the time and effort it has taken you to find out about the product at hand, and provide people with a link to download said product.

So what's the next step?

If you can create an e-bay listing, then say hello to your new path of income! So here's what to do, your first step is to do a bit of research and find a few GNU products that you like, and that you think other people will need, a few I would recommend, that I have sold myself in the past are - "Open Office" and "VLCPlayer" these products are a more effective remake of Microsoft Office and Windows Media Player. The next step is to create your listing, remember you're looking to sell a product, so make the product sound amazing, spend a fair bit of time on it, as you can save this listing and keep selling the same product over and over again. Set a fair buy it now price, the most commonly used price for GNU products is £1.99 though a low price, it soon mounts up as you watch the sales come in.

Finally, when creating your E-Bay listing, have a look around at other people's listings you will find them with keywords such as "Open Office", and make sure you have this notice at the bottom of your listing and I guarantee you will never have your product removed from E-Bay.

Note to eBay Staff: We are authorized to distribute this software under GNU General Public License (GPL).
